Rain, rain, GET THEE GONE

It's been pouring rain for the last four days. Thank you, Sydney.  I'll be gone soon enough, so can't you be kind for one more weekend?  Besides, dear Sydney, this is the weekend I reserved for dancing and playing and the botanical gardens and a ferry ride in the Harbor.  You must cooperate, I beseech  you...

Right. Well at least I've had fun trying out several of the Baalbergen's many umbrellas.  Umbrellas really are the most fun accessory, ever.  And I love watching little kids when it's raining, because no matter what their parents might say or do, as soon as they get outside the make a bee- line for the nearest puddle, and SPLASH!  Such joy! Such purpose! It makes me laugh every time.  It's like some sort of innate reaction.  The kid thinks, "Well yeah, it's raining.  So of course I'm obligated to explore the depth and splash-icity of each and every puddle.  What else CAN one do?"

Oh, and speaking of laughing at people, yesterday on the train to the university, I got the lid to my pen (it's one of those fancy Pilot pens with the metal bendy-clip on the cap) well, I got it stuck in my hair.  And I mean *really* stuck.  I tried to be cool.  I tried to feign calm and be collected, so I kept scribbling notes for my Utrecht talk with my left hand, and used my right hand to untangle the pen cap, all the while trying to make it look as though I was twirling my hair in a thoughtful manner, or smoothing stray frizzies, like any classy woman would do, naturally.

Didn't work.  The guys sitting behind me and the guy next to me became aware of the situation despite my best efforts to mask the fact that yes, I somehow go the lid to a pen stuck in my hair.  And I couldn't get it out. "Yes, Hello, My name is Elise Crull and I study philosophy of quantum physics, and I still get pen caps stuck in my hair, shampoo in my eyes, and forget to take the tags off new clothes I'm wearing. Nice to meet you."

It took me all the way from Wynyard station (by the Opera House) to Redfern (where I get off to go to the uni) to get it un-stuck. That's a solid 9.5 minutes. Or more.

Oh well.  I guess I learned my lesson: don't scratch your head when you're holding potentially- stickable-to-your-hair items.

I'm out, yo.
